Yes, the route in the Gerakios sector remains equipped and open for independent access (with your own equipment). However, I no longer provide guiding or equipment rental for this activity.

Are there other via ferrata routes on the island?

No, there is only one main route (Gerakios, above Myrties).

Why not offer it occasionally?

My goal is to give you the very best of the island. The alternatives I offer (single-pitch, DWS, multi-pitch) are more rewarding and better suited to most visitors.

What do you recommend instead?

It all depends on your level and preferences! Beginners: single-pitch initiation. Climbers: Deep Water Solo or multi-pitch. Unique adventure: portaledge night. Tell me what you’re looking for – I’ll be happy to advise!

Via Ferrata in Kalymnos – Gerakios Sector

Important: this activity is no longer offered

The via ferrata in Kalymnos does exist: it is an equipped route in the Gerakios sector, above Myrties, with magnificent views over the sea and Telendos. It remains accessible independently for those with their own equipment (harness, lanyards, helmet, etc.).

However, after several years of guiding it, I have chosen to no longer offer this activity in my guiding services.

Why I no longer offer it

Experience has shown me that the Kalymnos via ferrata (Gerakios sector) does not perfectly match the expectations of most visitors:

Steep approach of around 45 minutes (physical uphill climb).
Route lasting about 1 hour.
Return often awkward, involving downclimbing (1 to 2 hours depending on participants’ skill).

For non-athletic people or non-climbers, the overall effort is too demanding.

For experienced climbers, the route often lacks excitement compared to real climbing on the island’s exceptional rock.

The effort-to-enjoyment ratio is not optimal, and I prefer to focus my guiding on activities where I can truly add value: technical progression, safety, and maximum enjoyment.
